Downhill Irrigation

Hammond Park Rainwater CisternThis cistern harvests rainwater from the Hammond Park gymnasium roof and uses it to irrigate the soccer field.   Less energy is needed to irrigate because the cistern is located below the roof and above the field.

There is no charge for the rainwater….or gravity

The economy here is eliminating the cost of extracting water from a source, treating and then pumping it to the field.   In order for capital and operating costs to be recouped design, installation and maintenance must be well planned and executed.

The trick is to see the opportunity provided by the change in elevation and proximity of roof to field.

Science, History and Common Sense at work.

There’s lots of low-hanging energy and resource fruit out there for those who care to look….
